The government is strengthening control over mining in placers
The Government of the Russian Federation has approved an increase in the risk category of environmental impact of placer gold deposits from medium to significant, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology reports.
"This is done to more quickly identify and prevent violations of environmental legislation. Scheduled inspections at such facilities will now be carried out once every three years, instead of four, as it was before," the message explains.
In case of violations, Rosprirodnadzor will strengthen control over the field and may increase the risk category to high and extremely high.
"As a rule, placer gold deposits are located along river banks, in forests, and their development can harm these fragile ecosystems," the Ministry of Natural Resources notes.
As reported, starting in 2022, the responsibility of subsoil users for the elimination of environmental damage has been strengthened in Russia, regardless of whether the license period has expired. In 2023, amendments were adopted to the law "On Subsoil", according to which the use of subsoil is possible only if measures are taken to protect the animal and plant world.
